As someone who has moved around some, and lived in the southeast, I'd suggest the OP do an extended stay like in August when the weather is about as hot humid as it gets. If they have only (?) lived in the Northeast, the weather might be a big adjustment for year round living. Not to mention the cultural differences.

Hot and humid is not new to me, i have lived in equatorial climates. Even NE gets hot and humid in August, AC solves all! Culture too i can handle and I am always open to new things.
I am also wondering if I should consider Mobile. What worries me is weather related disasters, hurricanes and tornadoes in the Southern regions.

Mobile is certainly hot and humid if that's what you want. You might want to check on the availability and cost of homeowners insurance (or content, if you're renting an apartment) because of hurricane potential anywhere on or near the Gulf coast.

Alabama is a nice place to live. I moved here about five years ago and have, for the most part, enjoyed living here. I do find that my political views are very much in the minority, however. Had I realized this before relocating, I likely would have chosen a different area.

Coming from a Blue state I figure we would need to adjust. Where would you have chosen if you had known?
What are some of the things you like about where you live?
