San Clemente State Beach

San Clemente State Beach was established in 1937 when it was known as the most popular beach in California. There is a dramatic setting and Pacific Ocean air to bring visitors to San Clemente and the state beach each year. The beach is only a mile long, forming a barrier between the ocean and the very steep bluff. San Clemente State Beach is between Los Angeles and San Diego.

Sports enthusiasts tend to head to San Clemente State Beach due to the surf. It is also an easy escape from metropolitan areas. Surfing is the top attraction, since the surf tends to roll high. It takes a fairly experienced surfer to surf at this beach. As a state park there is picnicking allowed though no glass bottles or fires are allowed. Park hours will vary and there can be a small fee in order to use the facilities and park. Wheel chair access, bathrooms, swimming, camping, fishing, and showers are all available on the park grounds. Reservations for camping are required. It is also possible to see wildlife occasionally from the beach or around the beach. Whales, dolphins and other sea life can be spotted.
