Lyon Air Museum

The Lyon Air Museum in Santa Ana was founded by Major General William Lyon and provides " a quality venue of inspiration where the stories of aviation's past can touch the lives of its visitors through educational exhibits, authentic historical aircraft and related memorabilia." The museum is located on the west side of the John Wayne Airport and features exhibits of rare vehicles, authentic aircraft, and a variety of World War II memorabilia. Military vehicles in the collection include a 1939 German VID, a 1941 Dodge pick-up, and 1942 and 1943 military Jeeps. Non-military vehicles on display include a Mercedes-Benz, a Lincoln, a Cadillac Sedan and a 1940's bakery truck. Visitors learn how the United States helped to shape world history, especially during that era. Tours are led by knowledgeable docents who explain what role the vehicles and machinery played in history. Group tours are given and must be arranged in advance. Guides prepare for tours and tailor the information so it is age appropriate. Tours last approximately one hour, but may be longer if there are numerous group questions. Museum admission fees range from $4-8 and discounts are offered for children, seniors, veterans, and groups. The museum is open everyday from 10 am until 4 pm, but closed on all major holidays and sometimes for private events.
