Castle Rock State Park

The Castle Rock State Park is located alongside the Santa Cruz Mountains and features thick forests filled with Douglas Fir and Redwood trees. The park is relatively wild and offers 32 miels worth of hiking trails for those up for an adventure. The trails are part of the Santa Clara and San Lorzeno Valley park systems. The park is filled with steep canyons and a number of rock formations which attract rock climbers on the regular basis. Most hikers take the route that leads to the falls where they can enjoy rock climbing or an afternoon picnic under the sun. The park features campsites but they are very basic and meant only for overnight accommodations during a hike. Horseback riding is allowed, but riders should call ahead of time about conditions. Dogs are not allowed at the campgrounds or on the trails. Weather conditions change quickly, so hikers, climbers, and campers are encouraged to dress in layers and prepare for drastic fluctuations in temperature. Hikers should also bring plenty of water for their trip. The roads leading up to the park are very windy. The park has a tendency to be busy on the weekends and parking is limited, so arrive early if you want to be sure to get a space.
