Bob Hope Airport

Bob Hope Airport is located northwest of Burbank. It is about three miles from the business district. The airport has had a few different names over the years. It was first opened as Angeles Mesa Drive Airport in 1928. In 1978 it changed to Glendale Pasadena Airport. That name remained until 2003. In 2003 the airport was named after the comic funny man Bob Hope. The airport helps serves travelers in the Los Angeles, Glendale, Pasadena and San Fernando Valley area. The non- stop flights that service the region go to the Western United States, Dallas, and New York City. The airport is 610 acres. There are two runways there.

Bob Hope Airport has two terminals A and B. At terminal A there are nine gates serving JetBlue, Southwest, and US Airways. JetBlue is mainly used for Las Vegas and New York City flights. Southwest flies to Albuquerque, Las Vegas, Oakland, Phoenix, Sacramento, and San Jose. US Airways flies to Phoenix. Terminal B houses Alaska, American, Delta, Horizon, and United Express. Cities these airlines reach are Seattle, Dallas, Salt Lake City, Portland, Denver and San Francisco.

Travelers can take cars, bus, or rail from the airport. However, the bus line is not direct to the terminal. It gets travelers close enough to the airport to take a taxi the rest of the way for little cost. Parking is for short term and long term visitors. The rate of the parking can vary, which makes it important to check the rates before going to the airport with a vehicle. Short term parking at the moment is $2 for thirty minutes with a daily maximum of $30. There is also a platinum and gold service. There are three economy lots with a daily max of $9 to $11.

Terminal A offers gift shops, restaurants and other services. Travelers can expect places like Hudson News, pizza joints, and sandwiches to be available at the terminals. The shops and restaurants will have airport pricing and taxes. The location of the airport makes it easy for travelers starting out or ending at Bob Hope Airport to find meals outside the location. Hotels and other types of accommodation are available off site as well.

Burbank is considered the media capital of the world. Production facilities such as Warner Bros., Warner Music, NBC Universal, Walt Disney Company, and Viacom are located in Burbank. Shopping in Burbank is one of the more important activities for visitors to the city. This is why the airport has much to offer for shops. Downtown in Burbank has an upscale shopping district with a state of the art Empire Center. There are two parks near the airport and around Burbank. The Magnolia park area offers plenty of walking and biking trails. The Rancho Equestrian Area is a place for horse riding.

Burbank's Bob Hope Airport and the town have a long cinematic history. Portions of Casablanca, Bonnie and Clyde, High Noon, and 3:10 to Yuma were filmed in the Burbank area.
