Description: Patriot mania gripped George Mason University, spreading through Fairfax County and much of the nation in 2006 when the men’s basketball team earned an unexpected entry into the Final Four. George Mason’s home arena in Fairfax is the comfy 10,000-seat Patriot Center, the only sports/entertainment facility of its kind in Northern Virginia. The men’s team plays about 15 home games. The women’s team plays about 12 home games. The arena hosts special sporting events such as the Harlem Globetrotters, tennis, and beach volleyball tournaments and gymnastics programs.
