My friends who live in Brattleboro say it's pretty sad what has happened with the town in recent years. I guess it being the "gateway" town on I-91 from Hartford and Springfield, makes it a very hard fight. And I also suppose the town's "permissive" attitude, can attract its own sort of "undesirables".

So my main question is (this latest incident being a reminder), how is everyday life there these days? Is it still a somewhat nice area to live, or has the criminal element been able to dominate? Looking for the honest truth here.

I live about 80 miles from there, am not familiar with the area nor have I ever been there.
But we are all familiar with crimes happening these days…everywhere..in the news.

https://vtdigger.org/2023/04/03/poli...eboro-shelter/

According to this article that area is no stranger to crime, 4homicides past 12 months.
And some of them did start to come back to me/my memory, thinking”what….is up with that town???”
Another scenario with lots of unanswered questions, and how it could have been prevented…avoided..
Sad strange times we are living in these days..

I posted it current events,

Curious what others think..

And there was also this deadly shooting barely over a week ago. Crazy for a town that size!

Victim was a 21-year-old man from Hartford, CT.

Correction, according to this he shot her, then used a saw or cleaver to cut her up.
Heard about it everyday for some time…

So a saw...and now an axe. Too crazy.

I still can't get over 4 murders in 12 months for a city of 7K people. That a homicide rate that would rival or exceed Baltimore.

Some may argue that this type of activity may be brought on by an influx of highly educated and salaried liberals moving to Vermont over the last several decades and changing the political and social landscape of the state. Old "Yankee" values and work ethic, etc., possibly ebbing or falling by the wayside as a result.

I am aware of problems in several democrat controlled states and cities with many liberal minded residents such as California and Oregon (particularly Portland) occurring presently.

I reserve personal opinion on the potential matter, and merely present it as a speculation based on recent observation. It may or may not have merit or hold water, but could be a theory worth consideration.

One would have to be pretty ignorant to argue such a position. Far more likely our weakened health care and mental health capacity, and support for those suffering from homelessness, addictions, and contributing to an economy that leaves so many people to the wayside, are contributing factors. I'm reserving personal opinion though on this case, but its a strong probability. Correlation does not equal causation, but with such a strong correlation consistently, there is often a causal trigger.
