They're easy to fix, no doubt. But what kind of grain dish to serve alongside them?
The usual options somehow don't seem very complimentary flavor-wise...
Corn? No. Rice? Not especially. Some kind of pasta, perhaps?
BostonBakedBeans on menu few times a year in the cold months and serve with corn bread baked in muffin tin, small pat of herbal butter on the warm corn bread and a simple green salad with diy vinaigrette.
It's already been said, but the answer is B&M brown bread. It comes in a can that you heat in the oven and when it's warm, you have to push it out of the can. Then you have yourself a roll of warm, sticky, sweet, delicious cake like bread that is supposed to be eaten with Boston baked beans. Slice a piece with a knife and people usually slather it with butter or cream cheese. But for vegetarian you would slather it with some other spread. It will still be yummy. Actually, the B&M brown bread that goes with the beans contains milk but here's a recipe using almond milk that will taste the same. It's delicious.

It's the tradition and there is nothing better on a cold winter night. It's also known as Saturday Night Supper.
Oh yum.
This also reminded me that you can get store-made "brown bread" (made with molasses) that also has raisins cooked into it. We used to have that with beans all the time when I was growing up.

Yeh, that's the brown bread I was talking about, made with molasses and totally delish. I like it best when it comes with raisins. I guess Ottawa and New England must share some food traditions from long ago.
