Not sure. I have some memories of this plan from years ago, but apparently never came to fruition. Probably couldn’t get financing. There was a waterpark on Canal in the 80’s and 90’s but now is a huge Toyota dealership.

based on this ill-logic New York City and LA must be paradise. I wonder why anyone would ever leave those places, and why in the the heck aren't you there?

Speaking of “ill-logic”, why would not wanting to live in LA have anything to do with growth in Tri-Cities, which is the side topic of this thread.

Some people want to be stuck in the 1800s forever, well there are places like that and guess what - almost nobody lives there for that reason.

The 1800s...you mean the era of Manifest Destiny? Is that the era you are stuck in? I'm squarely in the 21st century where there are plenty of despoiled places with lots of jobs, development, and high population for people to choose from already without ruining more places by creating more of that.

because LA has all the things you seem to value...and more of it. More people, more development, more buildings, more growth...more is better, isn't it?

People naturally gravitate to places that have lots of good paying jobs and affordable housing is an extra bonus. The Tri-Cities area has both hence it attracts a lot of people. If you want to live in an area that is seeing very little net migration then you need to pick a place where job opportunities are low like in the counties that I mentioned above. There is nothing you can do to slow down Tri-Cities trajectory at this point. Also considering it’s geographic setting being at the confluence of the Yakima, Columbia and Snake rivers with navigable waters to Portland and Longview giving local farmers access to the cheapest mode of transport there is (barges), it’s a natural logistics center, it only makes sense for a bustling city to emerge there.

Well-stated. Here is the thing, comparing growth in Tri-Cities, WA to Los Angeles is apples and oranges. The poster states that LA is this sort of some growth monster. If he/she had done his/her homework, he/she would realize that LA county growth has been slowing in the last decade. '

Anti-growth slows economic progress, the last thing we need right now with the pandemic. (A funny time to be discussing this topic consider the huge number that are of work). Anti growth sentiment kills cities, metro areas, and States. Among most business leaders, anti-growth is certainly a negative, not a positive. The posters arguments simply don't add up to anything but stalling the progress of what we can continue to do to help our individuals and families, cities and States.

I am not sure where this poster is currently living. Apparently doesn’t want to disclose that. If he/she is local that would perhaps give him/her more of a voice, but I seriously doubt he/she is.

I am not going to argue this any longer on here, because I know, especially here in the Tri-Cities, my argument will win every time.
