Neighborhoods like Soulard, CWE, the loop, tgs are vibrant doing well because they are more focused on entertainment/dining and not dependent on office workers.

These supposed peer cities, maybe with the exception of Cleveland (if it qualifies), really don't have what St. Louis has. They don't compare well in my estimation. St. louis has a vibrant metro. It garners a lot of attention. It has an infrastructure for a city three times larger. It has world class institutions in medicine, education, and cultural sites.

I have relatives in Benton Park/Cherokee Street and by my observation it seems to be managing quite well in terms of city neighborhoods. The LGBTQIA community seems not to be threatened in various old neighborhoods like Benton Park, Soulard, etc.
