Now we are seeing a renewed housing shortage but I think this will be short since apartment developers have got the building rhythm down.

My daughter just got through with the Amazon interview process for a high level job. (CPA accounting work)
From what I heard, the interview process was a grueling bad joke. Essays required, all day interviews with ridiculous questions and just plain irrelevant and pointless requirements for her preparation and answers. Very little to do with her having the actual technical or people skills required for the job. Pretty much 24/7 consuming her time for at least 3 weeks. Some of the insights into what work would be like indicate it is a low efficiency place with endless time-wasting requirements. e.g. each meeting must start with presenting a written essay that everyone has to read before starting the meeting, but no requirement for an actual agenda for the meeting.

So, after all this time investment on her part, they decided to "go another direction", which made me breath a sigh of relief after my insights of what I heard about the Amazon process through her. I spent a 40 year career in High Tech companies (startups through mega corporations) as an engineer and Amazon raised a ton of red flags for me. Sure they pay well, but they will grind you up, spit you out, and you will not accomplish much for the amount of resources they throw at things.

As an aside, while interviewing with them, she got good offers from 4 other highly rated companies, that sounded like they will be hard work, but much more human and efficient. She lives in Seattle and will be working remotely for a company out of the area.
