And now, Tarasenko has a new agent.
So, maybe not so close after all.

Tarasenko deal seems to have gone cold. I wonder if the Canes have a Plan B.

I'm not wild about the Karlsson talk. Would likely rather pay Pesce, if he is close to reasonable, and pass on TDA.

I think Tarasenko is still in play. Ottawa and Carolina both have cap limitations that have to be dealt with.
Tomas Tatar? I dunno. He's capable, but really just another depth scorer.

Elias Lindholm reunion trade?
His biggest regret on leaving Carolina was not getting to play for Rod.

Dare I say:
Spoiler
Phil Kessel? Cheap?

Lindholm would be a good Plan B. He has one more year on his contract and it's only $4.85 million... less money than we'd probably have to pay Tarasenko. But Calgary will want a good player in return, probably not just draft picks.

Calgary is on notice that they will likely lose Lindholm and Hanifin, if not now, at the deadline. That doesn't help their leverage in the market.

They have been completely lethargic so far in off-season, so I am curious what they are thinking.

Brendan Lemieux?

Eh. $800,000 for a year? Why not?

The 2023-24 team could have the most snarl since the Walker-Gleason-Cole team in 2007-08. For years the Canes have been one of the least penalized teams in the league, but the pendulum may be swinging to middle-of-the-pack in that respect. If the goaltending and PK are good, there is room to take more penalties if it makes us tougher to play against in other respects. The 2005-06 Cup team was not gunshy about taking penalties.

Tony DeAngelo buy out.
Again.
Wonder how the Canes might get involved.

Yeah.
Why rescue him from himself a second time?
First NHL player to be bought out twice.
