Very unhappy indeed. We are not at all happy if the rumors are true and he leaves us.

Football IS USC athletics so it's not like you'll be in a funk for long.

What's more interesting is whether he can do anything for the perpetually lame Seahawks.

Ol "Big Balls Pete" should give Mark Sanchez a call and see if he can give him any pointers on winnig in the NFL. Remember, it was less than a year ago that Pete said that Sanchez was not ready for the transition.....Sanchez took the Jets to the Playoffs....

The NCAA sanctions are for real, and will have a very negative impact on USC Athletics, however Pete could go to Seattle....spend a couple years....and..... after some other coach weathers the NCAA sanctions ride back into town with a fatter wallet and "save the day".

The University of Spoiled Children has reason to weep tonight..."Big Balls Pete Has Skipped Town"

I'm not a Carroll or USC fan but don't judge his pro coaching record too harshly. The cup of coffee he had with the Jets was in the middle of a 10 year run when they only won as many as 8 games 3 times. He was followed up by Rich Kotite who won 4 games in two seasons.

At NE, he had them in the playoffs his first two years. His second year, the Pat's FO traded Curtis Martin to the Jets. The Pats drafted Robert Edwards with the pick they got from the Jets and he had a good rookie year, was considered a young player to watch but he blew out his knee in a freak accident while playing flag football after the season and never played for them again. Without a real running threat teams teed off on the Statue of Bledsoety all year. I think he was sacked almost 60 times. Plus, one of their division rivals was coached by none other than Parcells who knew the players on that NE team inside and out.

One last thing to remember is, in two of his four seasons in NE, Parcells went 6-10 and 5-11. His final record there was 32-32. Belichick was 5-11 in his first year in NE, was 0-2 when Bledsoe went down and we all know what happened next. The birth of the legend of Tom Brady and a coaching genius. It's also pretty well known that Belichick didn't exactly set the city of Cleveland on fire in his stint there outside of one good season. His career coaching record when he landed in NE was under .500.

That doesn't mean that Petey is going to turn into Vince Lombardi in Seattle but there's just more to his pro record than meets the eye.

I read that one sports show mentioned that USC had appealed to the NCAA to allow them to self impose sanctions and penalties but were denied. If the Bush thing ends up blowing up in their faces, it would have happened while they were already on NCAA probation, although I can't remember why they were on it at that time.

If it does happen, I don't think they would get "the death penalty" (Canceled seasons, lost scholarships, no bowl games, no live tv, recruiting limits, etc) that SMU got in '87 but it won't be good.

Carroll doesnt have what it takes to real in NFL players. These are not college kids that get pumped up by the rah rah chants and cheering. These are grown men who make a living at what they do. In New England he was successful because he had a ton of talent at the time, hell he inherated a team that had just gone to the superbowl the year before he took over. Coates, Law, Milloy, Bruschi, Bledsoe, Slade, Vinateri, Ted Johnson, Martin, McGinest.... and it goes on. He took over a team Parcells had just taken to the Superbowl. Look at his record in New England, it got progressivley worse every year. 10-6, 9-7 then 8-8. He tried too hard to be buddies with his players. Good Luck pitiful Pete you're gonna need it!

Yeah, his 12 TDs and 20 INTs were the reason, not their top ranked defense or their very good running game.

Yeah, Mike Riley came to San Diego and started all that rah rah college cheer stuff, the players found it laughable and he immediately lost the team...he stunk here and went back to college coaching and has been very successful.
