Hello. A mistake I have made in the past is ignoring the fact that one location within one state is not representative of the entirety of the state, and that checking out other towns - not quick drive-throughs, makes a big difference. Why I used to think I had to leave X State in a move is mystifying.

I have thought of Portland and I'm 69 and would move to a 55+ apartment area. I'd join a Unitarian Church and a gym if the apartment place didn't have a gym. No S.O. to move with. Maybe find a restaurant club to join for the great eateries around Portland. I think it's a fine place (used to live in Boston and went up to Maine often, now living in mountain Colorado).

That's exactly what I did with Oregon, and I agree its a mistake to think like that. Somehow I felt the entire state of Oregon was in the mess that Portland was. Even though I knew Portland was very different from the rest of Oregon other than maybe Eugene.
