This supply warehouse calls them "Concrete Cinder Blocks"
It's an incorrect term, no one uses coal cinders anymore for making blocks.

I've lived in SE Florida for almost 50 years. Plenty of hurricanes, never had a single dollar in claims through any storm. A couple of storms passed within 20 miles or less of my house. I had CBS concrete homes, full shutters etc. but I also think I got lucky too.

Newer construction is fantastic but I do think if a tornado touches down during a storm that damage will certainly occur.
What's your roof made of? and what's the roof covered with?

However I agree, homes built since Hurrican Andrew are well designed for huricannes in Florida. I had two go dierectly over my home (Jeanne and Francais) and have recored 119MPH winds for 23 minutes and gusts over the gauge that went to 130mph, without sustaing any affects.

I have a frame home.

This^^^!!! My husband was quoted over $6,500 to do one implant!! And this is just in our little Central Florida city of Lakeland! But our dentist, great as he is, has TWO very fancy offices to support.... Dental costs are very extreme here, and there really isn't any good dental insurance anymore, especially that covers advanced procedures such as this.

You went to the wrong doctors then. The average cost of wisdom tooth extraction in Florida is around $400 per tooth, assuming the teeth are impacted. If it's a simple extraction (no impaction) it's under $200 per tooth.

That's with no dental plan.

Sure three different oral surgeons all around the same 4K but they were the wrong ones

Not hard to do. Just pick out the ones that cater to the wealthy.

The lowest price for a simple wisdom tooth extraction in Florida is $75, and for an impacted tooth it's $200.

I chose the average, because I wouldn't want to have Aspen Dental extract my teeth.

If you are okay living 30+ minutes to a beach, Florida is still affordable.

Overall, Florida's cost of living ranks 23rd nationally with Hawaii being #1 most costly.

If you live 30+ minutes inland in FLA, cost of living drops quite a bit.

Generally speaking, the further inland you go, the cheaper Florida gets. The cities along state road 27 are all affordable....like Sebring for instance.

Lakeland, & Winter Haven are both inland places that are affordable and very nice places to live, just to name 2.

I would think Ocala is similarly priced to these 2 cities, but I'm not sure. I don't know much about Ocala, other than its stifling hot in the Summertime, and there are lots of horse farms there. I like the rolling hills, and huge oak trees with Spanish Moss in the Ocala area.

10 years ago maybe.

The average home price in most cities is 400K or above. The average rent for a two-bedroom apartment in similar cities is $2500 or better per month (FL ranks 7th for highest rents by state). Homeowners Insurance averages $4000 per year. Full-coverage Automobile Insurance is $329 a month on average or about $3900 per year. Florida has the 5th highest Grocery Store prices in the country, averaging about $1200 a month.
FL ranks 49th for Income Inequality in 2024. FL's health insurance costs are five times the national average at 11K per year.

That is one of the "relocation" questions. I went to three orthos and the same braces ran 6.6k to 2.2k. Take your pick!
