Butte used to be a democrat stronghold, but when the pit closed and the unions left and people dropped the socialism and went to work.

Whitefish is just an out of state enclave so not really Montana anymore. Too many movie people in Livingston, but get away from town and people get a lot better.

The whole state is being hit by foreign influences, but there's still a lot of good people here .
Thanks. Which of those towns on the list would you generally label as the most conservative….say the top 3 or so?

Your asking about MT towns and their political preferences, so I was curious if the "Leaning" factor would affect your reason for asking that question. And if the election outcome would affect you if you already live in MT. or plan to move there.

Looking to relocate. Have looked far more in Wyoming. Have spent the last 6 out of 7 summers there. I’m a teacher in Midwest where I’ve had a great career of 28 years…great school, community, have won 3 state championships as a coach…teacher of the year….but liberalism here has us looking as we have for the last 7-8 years…have 5 kids with three of them still at home…aging parents live in our neighborhood…hard to leave but will either relocate within the next 2-3 years or wait until I reach full pension in 8 years.

Unlike many on these forums which I’ve followed for many years, want to plan and make an intelligent and wise decision taking into account the anticipation of consequences into such a huge decision.

Some people can pickup and move on a whim…not us.

Trump winning or losing has zero bearing…and that seems so shallow and shortsighted…perhaps you can see now that now. Trump would last 4 more years…big whooop…heavens, my life and the conservativeness of my community is far longer lasting and immediately impacting.

How about ranking some towns to help?

Out of your list, Miles City #1, Kalispell #2, (with the caveat that there's a lot of people moving in there that could skew that), and Billings #3.

Billings has a large population, so depending on where you are, results may vary.

I don't know what exactly you are looking for, but the small towns on the eastern side of the state are pretty much all conservative/libertarian, only some west of the Rockies are. Thompson Falls would probably lead that list. Just know that just a few miles can make a huge difference because while Thompson Falls is very conservative, Trout Creek about 15 miles away has a history of sending some of the most radical leftists to the legislature of any district.

At least WY does not tax pensions. Your right I also could give two Shtes about who wins. Just asking questions and contributing to a forum. I have no idea about what towns in MT are leaning one way or the other. I guess MT. and WY. are RED. You say you got maybe 3-8 years before you make a move. By that time everything will change and all ranking will be different.

You'll fit right in. I found it exhausting personally. Wyoming is more red but don't count of being accepted there unless maybe you do complain about liberals loudly. You're from the Midwest which is "back east." In both states you might be out to ruin their way if life like a liberal

It’s not an odd response at all, considering that a lot of people that move to red states do so because they think they’re safer from Democratic presidential administrations in those places. If Trump were in office again, it would probably have somewhat of a placating effect on right-wingers in blue states and slow their out-migration.

Reading between the lines, your views align with most Montanans. MT is red and has been a big draw for those looking to escape blue areas.

It's slowed down significantly since housing prices almost doubled inside of 2yrs and most young families and working/middle class can't afford to live here now.
