Thanks Stanwood. I never thought about seeing what was already published for Lubbock's musical history.

I know what I will ask for for Christmas.

And the Lubbock music tradition continues. Today a fellow from Lubbock called me regarding his possible purchase of a particular antique gasoline sign I have hanging on one of my barns. He was a local singer and guitar player of classic country and plays local gigs.

The band Milton Mapes/Monahans should get honorable mention, as their song 'Lubbock' is in my opinion the best ever song about Lubbock, and the band Milton Mapes is named after the lead singer's grandfather who ran a store in Tahoka or Slaton, maybe, I don't exactly remember. They also have a song called 'Palo Duro' which is the only song I know about Palo Duro canyon, so it is also by default the best song about Palo Duro.

1. Buddy Holly and the Crickets
2. Mac Davis
3. Delbert McClinton
4. Joe Ely
5. Lloyd Maines
6. Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks
7. Butch Hancock
8. Terry Allen
9. Jimmie Dale Gilmore
10. Tommy Hancock
11. Todd Mankin
12. Curtis Edmund
13. Sherry Holly
14. Tinker Carlen
15. The Jeremiah Houston Band
16. Los Premiers (“Pioneers of Chicano Music")

Jimmy Dale Gilmore rang a bell, so I googled it. However, Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs was actually who I was trying to remember. My older brother played one of his albums over and over. I think Gilmer was from Lubbock or Amarillo.
