Fri 22Sept 2pEDT - PTC16 becomes Tropical Storm Ophelia. Winds 60mph(95km/h), moving NNW 12mph(19km/h), pressure 992mb. Center about 185miles(295km) S of Cape Hatteras, NC.

Fri 22Sept 5pEDT Winds 70mph(110km/h), moving NNW 13mph(20km/h), pressure 986mb. Center about 120miles(195km) SE of Wilmington, NC. Hurricane Watch issued from North of Surf City, NC to Ocracoke Inlet, NC. Just a few more MPH til Cat1. Gonna be borderline at landfall it appears. Landfall expected between Morehead City and Wilmington, NC overnight.


Surge raised again slightly for portions of NC:
Neuse and Bay Rivers...4-6 ft
Pamlico and Pungo Rivers...4-6 ft

TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS OCCURING ALONG THE COAST AND WILL SPREAD NORTHWARD TODAY...

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS...70 MPH

PRESENT MOVEMENT...NNW AT 9 MPH

MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE...981 MB...28.97 INCHES

NOAA buoy 41037 at Wrightsville Beach Offshore
recently reported a sustained wind of 54 mph (87 km/h) and a gust
to 83 mph (134 km/h). A sustained wind of 43 mph (68 km/h) and a
gust of 53 mph (85 km/h) was recently reported near Morehead City,
North Carolina.

8a Sat 23Sept max winds 65mph, moving N 13mph, pressure 983mb. Center right at New Bern, NC. As center passes, remember winds shift and surge changes direction. Good for beaches, but Sound side can flood. Small brief tornadoes most likely spin ups this morning into afternoon is NE NC and SE VA.

These storms always build when they move away from FL. But the wrap around gave me a 69f low for the first time since Apr.
