Although I agree with the two of you about the education front. I do think the affordability of SA will win some of that love as the 35 north cities are getting.

New Braunfels is in a good spot

Agreed, and SA is lucky to be in an area of the state with a bunch of college/universities, so although many of these schools aren't technically in the SA metro, they are pretty nearby (within 90 minutes). Out of all the cities over 2M, San Antonio and Kansas City are the most affordable that still offers great job prospects.

Exxon moving to Houston shouldn't change how Houston is the most affordable metro over 7M in the country by far, but the PR it gives city boosters could accelerate the COL level if more name brand companies move to Houston. I said before I think DFW is going to become too crowded/higher priced and not offer the value it once had. It's a great place for businesses to relocate and raise a family, but now it is starting to have affordability issues, second worst in the state to the Austin area. Because of this it could become less attractive for companies, as they look to less crowded metros like SA or KCMO. Houston is crowded at over 7M but doesn't have as much of an affordability problem like DFW (especially northern DFW).

One thing not touched on is the community outreach these companies do. Even though DFW only had a few hundred employees, the company still slapped its name on many events around DFW. I'm betting those won't continue and instead Houston will get more of that from them. Yes, Exxon sponsors a lot in Houston already but I'm sure now more will come.

Well a few posts back ParaguaneroSwag mentioned hoping the Woodlands develops into a nice spot for execs. That would be best of both worlds for Houston as it is far enough to keep Houston affordable but close enough to positively influence the metro economy.

ParaguaneroSwag mentioned hoping it becomes like Irving. It would be great for Houston to finally develop more powerful burbs, but unlike Irving, The Woodlands is not the center of gravity of the metroplex. Houston is building tons of new homes in almost every direction and is also filling in the core. I don't think Houston will be as susceptible to increased COL as Austin or DFW.

Increased donations to charitable/ public efforts would be great for the city too

Honestly, despite Exxon’s huge presence here, I can’t think of any major regular events they sponsor here. I know they exist, I just can’t think of any off the top of my head. So I’m sure they’ll try to get into one of these at some point.

When HPE recently took the Houston Open naming rights. NRG hasn’t taken any that I know of since moving here. But with NRG stadium, that’s already the biggest deal of them all so they have no need.

ComocoPhillips has a lot of the Rodeo events. Chevron has the Houston Marathon. PNC Stadium’s naming rights deal is set to expire soon let’s see who takes that one.

Even Minute Maid Park which is like the headquarters of advertisements and sponsorships I can’t think of any. There’s the Philips 66 home run pump. Landry’s Crawford Boxes. The Shell/Timewise sign. OXY sign. The chid fil a flag pole. Shipley Donuts section. Budweiser Bleachers. United and Geico have a huge amount of displays. Woodforest National Bank has the pitching sign.

Kind of odd I must say. For everything they have, they don’t seem to have any of the most prominent deals here.

Honestly, I have said this before and will say it again. The Memorial/EC/City Centre is as much suburban as your non city limits suburbs. In fact, that corridor of corporate campuses is starting to reach Katy (or “Katy”) with all of its growth. That is definitely a suburban hotspot for executives. And the Woodlands/Springwood area is becoming #2. But what’s interesting about the latter is that it has more a luxury tag.

Anyway, as Clutch pointed, we will probably be the undisputed #3 home of F500 companies for a while because even with what we have, there other other growing local companies that are growing into F500s. Unless, of course, you count SF and San Jose together in which case we are #4.

Spring unfortunately is the buffer between 1960, which is where you can see a change. I live in Spring so I can tell you first hand. The east side of Spring (Hardy / Aldine Westfield / Treaschwig) and on the west side things are better, but it seems to bleed over.

Anyhow, curious to see if this wave of XOM people end up buying what's left of the Spring / Klein / TW area or end up claiming Conroe's inventory.
Im familiar with the area and there LOTS of land South if the woodlands to be developed

That's not going to happen unless Houston allows it. And Houston is not going to allow any incorporations that might interfere with special purpose annexation.

I don't know, if they struck a deal with the COH to share some revenue with them I could see it happening.

Getting revenue without having to provide any city services could be just the formula that will allow something like that to happen.

I drove that area from the beltway all the way out to Conroe and I haven't drove that way in a couple of years but it seems like the area is cleaning up little by little it doesn't seem as cluttery or trashy off the feeder roads anymore for some reason.
