Oh, doesn't seem to be an issue in Vegas, LA, Dallas, Tampa, Miami, Carolina, etc. U.S. population is moving south and west.
Vegas its a novelty for them, they have no other pro teams when Knights rolled in. Panthers had trouble filling seats for most of history. I believe Tampa, and Carolina also had issues when losing. We all know PHX woes, and the short lived ATL team.

Snowy climates have lost the Cleveland Barons, the Kansas City Scouts, the Colorado Rockies, the Minnesota North Stars, the (original) Winnipeg Jets, the Quebec Nordiques, the Hartford Whalers. Over the decades, the St. Louis Blues and the Edmonton Oilers (on multiple occasions) and the Pittsburgh Penguins and the New Jersey Devils, to name just a few, have all been on the verge of relocating.
While I find hockey in the Sun Belt to be aesthetlically displeasing, it is abundantly clear from the evidence that teams can and do thrive in various warm-weather cities.
They'll relocate somewhere where they won't have to change conferences or divisions. That would be either Houston or Kansas City.
Personally I hope they stay, but I think at this point the market has had enough. The bad thing is, it's not a bad market to be in but given the bankruptcy, getting kicked out of Glendale, the lack of playoff success and lack of a star to build in, yeah its not hard to see why people in the Valley are fed up.

AZ has had so many chances for them to stay. The team, city, and area has failed. Time to move on to more stability.

Exactly. AZ probably does not want them. There are literally cities salivating at bringing them in. Who cares what Bettman wants? QBC really wants them. Fertitta in Houston really wants them. SLC wants them, but their arena is old and not suited to hockey. KC has a nice arena.

It isn't what Bettman wants, it's what the NHL Board of Governors/owners want.
