Hornady FTX- maybe. Still at 300yds that's a 23" drop (on average). That's over the shoulder of an average deer to drop it in the right spot. Yikes.

I am not seriously considering a .45-70 for my 330 yard Texas deer rifle. My parents wont let me get a lever action or own lever actions. If I did get a lever action deer rifle it would most likely be a .30-30 but my mom and dad wont ever let me own a .30-30 as long as I live with them.

When I was 18 I bought whatever the hell rifle I wanted (and could afford). When I turned 21 my girlfriend (now wife) bought me a used Ruger SuperRedhawk 7.5" barrel .44 magnum.

There's a reason I married her.

The 45-70 is perfectly capable of killing a deer out past 330 yards, but you will have to know the range pretty accurately and know how much to hold over. Generally when you are hunting, you don't know the range exactly. If you are hunting from a blind, you might have a field picked out and know the range to at least a few landmarks.

If you don't do a good bit of long range target shooting, it's not good to push ranges on deer sized animals much past 300 yards, at the max. Not sure who is telling you that you need 330 yard capability. Mastering the obvious, you have a pretty good crew of people shoving bad advice down your throat. You should, if you are stalking, be able to get within say 150 yards of your game. If your guide is any good he will show you how to do this.

You can get various rangefinders and some scopes have integral range finders as well.

Well I was not even allowed to buy a rifle from the gun show even when I was 18 or ever.My parents wont ever let me buy guns except maybe a antique rifle.I am not even allowed to buy airsoft guns or bb guns or pellet guns.

I use a blind and a corn feeder to hunt deer with my dad out of a blind in Texas. The feeder is about 100 to 110 yards away from the shooting position in the blind.I have even had 50 yard shot possibly. My dad is telling me I need a gun that can hit deer from 330 yards away. The vast majority of my deer have been taken within 100 yards or so with 2 being over 200 yards away.Ya my dad does not really believe in long range target practice or going to the range multiple times a year.He only lets me shoot my rifle on 1 or 2 trips to the caliche pit a year right before deer season.I desperately want to shoot more but my dad wont because we dont have anywhere to shoot thats shorter than 2 hours away.Welll we do its just my dad is way too cheap to pay for a shooting range membership or for multiple trips to the shooting range. even though he is a multi-millionaire.My dad does not really believe in target practicing a lot sadly. My guide is my fishing guide but we dont use a guide for hunting. My guide told me that the .30-06 is too big of a gun for me even though I want a .30-06 and also he thinks that the 6.5 Creedmoor will make me lose a lot of deer.My dad is not going to let me get the scope I want most likely.I have tried to get him to take me to the range more but he refuses.

No, you don't need to be shooting a deer at 300+ yards. That is a very long shot, and most people can't reliably hit the correct part of a deer that far away. I've been shooting high power rifle competitively for 40 years, out to 1,000 yards. I will not take a shot at a deer over about 200 yards.

Oh okay I am sorry. My dad thought I need a gun that shoot well past 300 yards but I guess he was wrong.I would never take a shot past about 150 to 200 yards. My dad killed a deer past 500 yards one time but I would never ever dream of taking that shot. The furthest I have seen him kill a deer is a little over 400 yards but I would never do that personally.

Wow really? I've not shot competitively with high power rifles but I am totally confident out to 400-450 given the right weather.
