1970s - New York (Studio 54, mafia, birth of hip-hop)
1980s - Los Angeles & Miami (The Olympics, "I Love LA", Crips & Bloods, glam rock, Miami Vice, cocaine)
1990s - Seattle & Atlanta (they were the places to be in their respective ways)
2000s - The Bay Area (tech takeover of our lives)
2010s to now - none....all cities are just varying levels of gentrification and Instagram photo-ops

50's: Los Angeles (post-war boom, beginning of suburbia in it's final form)
60's: San Francisco (hippies, music, etc.)
70's: New York (emblematic of national decline, hollowing out of cities/white flight)
80's: Los Angeles (continued westward migration)
90's: Seattle (grunge, Starbucks, Microsoft - I can still remember the cover of Time magazine about Seattle)
00's: NYC/Boston/Chicago/Dallas/SF/etc. (Tier 1 cities nationwide make a huge comeback, everyone wants to live there. Prices skyrocket)
10's: Austin (emblematic of explosive growth across the sunbelt)
20's: ???

I get what your'e going for I think, but theres a couple that are strange. Cleveland in the 40s?? why? 40s should be NYC easily . NY ithe 70s? I guess that is for infamous reasons. 70s should be Dallas or something like that. and SF in 2010-2010 is sketch.

The 2010s really saw the boom of the sunbelt. Cites that we're developing in the late 20th century like Raleigh, Nashville, Austin, Charlotte, etc are now seen as boomtowns for millennials. Who knows what's next for the '20s. Some sunbelt cities like Los Angeles, Miami (to an extent), Houston (though still growing) New Orleans, and Atlanta (to an even lesser extent) are seen as the old boomtowns. People put sun-belt cities in one category but many sun-belt cities boomed a lot earlier than others. Some immediately after ww2 while others in the 21st century.

True, wasn't thinking about that. Also, the Home Alone movies took place there which were another huge staple of the 90s.
