There's been a lot of talk about starting a thread, so I went ahead and did it.

With all of the chaos of conference realignment, it will be nice to simply talk football!

Awesome. Looks like the season starts in Dublin again.

Week 1 has some interesting matchups:

Miami @ Miami
Cal @ North Texas

Looking forward to the whole season.

Well, while you're at it, get to know the college football teams of our neighbo(u)r to the north.

https://presto-en.usports.ca/sports/...3-24/schedule*

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_U...ootball_season

Unfortunately, U-Sports does not broadcast their games on television except the playoff bowls so the best way to watch a game is to head up north and watch one live if you can. Catch some Fall foliage on the way too. These games may not be CFL caliber but this is genuine 3-down football that cannot be seen anywhere down here.

* I noticed the RSEQ teams accidentally got left out of this year's schedule. Check the individual schools for a complete schedule.

Oh, how brave of you to rescue us from the conference realignment chaos by starting a football thread. Truly the hero we all needed.

Here's a look at the Preseason AP Top 25

https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-college-football-poll

1. Georgia (*60)
2. Michigan (*2)
3. Ohio State (*1)
4. Alabama
5. LSU
6. USC
7. Penn State
8. Florida State
9. Clemson
10. Washington
11. Texas
12. Tennessee
13. Notre Dame
14. Utah
15. Oregon
16. Kansas State
17. TCU
18. Oregon State
19. Wisconsin
20. Oklahoma
21. North Carolina
22. Ole Miss
23. Texas A&M
24. Tulane
25. Iowa

*first place votes

Here's some observations.

> In the Top 10: Three of the top five are SEC and three of top seven are B1G
> Only one Group of five school in the top 25 (typical)
> PAC 12 has five teams in the poll, and its going to be the last year of the conference as we know it.
> Texas is being over hyped (again)
> Oklahoma and Notre Dame are only ranked based on name recognition.

True.

We'll see how this statement holds up after the season is played.

Those are the top two games on my list. Night game of Penn State vs West Virginia will be worht seeing.
We don't get many North Texas Games here on TV but when we do, I at least record it so that I can watch it later

Also week ZERO has Navy vs Notre Dame, Ohio vs San Diego St, and San Jose St vs USC.

I am hoping that 7Express has time to make the prediction lists every week.

I enjoy college football, but not the over-hyped programs I like the pure football. It would be fun to see a Canadian college game too.

We get ONE trip this fall (I am told) and since it is the old lady and myself, there will be NO football involved. Canada would be worth it and I might be able to talk her into a Canadian college game. Probably though, we will have a fun week in New ENgland enjoying the fall colors.

I'm hoping to make it to Montreal to watch the McGill Redbirds in their ancient Percival Molson Stadium, which in video clips reminds me of Harvard Stadium. It's only a 6 hour drive from Boston to Montreal and much of it through pleasant Vermont. I was previously hoping to make it to Ottawa at the end of September to watch the Panda Game, this annual tradition between Carleton Ravens and U. Ottawa GeeGees, but am busy that weekend. Before that, there is my graduate school alma mater Tufts' homecoming game which I think I will actually stay to watch in its entirety this year. No doubt NCAA Division I schools are exciting because they have the most talent, they produce most of the Heisman trophy winners and future NFL stars, and so forth, but every once in a while, a Division III underdog like Tufts deserves attention and respect too. Seriously, Division I can be so over hyped that people often forget there's a Division II and a Division III.
