We are planning to move Charlotte, can anyone suggest townhomes or apartments with Indian community nearby grocery shops.
Also, looking for free pre school for 3year old or affordable fee range per month. please advise.
The Ballantyne area is a good option with good schools, an Indian American population, and several nearby international grocers in Pineville including Super G and Patel Brothers.
There is a day care subsidy from the state DHHS. Their eligibility criteria are probably hard for an average family to meet. It is mostly meant for people receiving other aid.
Pre-K starts at 4 years old and you need to meet eligibility criteria to get it for free. None of us know enough details about your personal situation to know if you would qualify. Usually to get free Pre-K you family needs to either make below average income or your child demonstrates a need after an assessment, such as a learning disorder, that shows they will be far behind in Kindergarten without state provided Pre-K.
If you make average or higher income or your child is not showing any learning difficulties, I would plan on paying and start budgeting now.
Why would 3 years olds be in school anyway? Is that just a glorified word for free babysitting?
Preschool prepares kids to be successful in kindergarten by teaching them:
- Social skills for how to deal with extended time away from their family, how to make friends, cooperate, listen, et.
- How to learn ahead of an overly academic environment. Fostering curiosity and learning so students are focused when in an academic setting.
- Self regulation and problem solving as young kids process their emotions with minor conflicts with experienced teachers to help with these interpersonal problem solving skills.
- Activities to build pre-literacy such as songs, rhymes, read-aloud time, and activities that make reading fun / engaging.
- Foundation for match such as matching, sorting, or counting games
There are many other benefits where kids that went to pre-school end up ahead of kindergarten students that have not already gone to school. A kindergarten student being dropped off at 5 years old for the first time may take 1 - 2 months to adjust to being away from their parents for a long period of time. That kid isn't focused on learning and instead is just beginning to learn independence and self regulation. Meanwhile, the preschool kids are comfortable and ahead of the curve.
Ultimately it is a parent's personal decision if preschool is right for their kid or not. If you have a large family or lots of friends with kids, your child may be getting these social skills organically. If it is your first child and you aren't around other kids all the time, pre-school can be pivotal to getting them introduced to other kids and people.
As an aside, I read that New Jersey is offering free PreK for every 3-year-old child regardless of family income. It is tremendously expensive, and they have made $120 million in grants to communities. They are now discussing whether they can afford to continue. That is one reason NJ property taxes are so high.
North Carolina voters tend to prefer lower taxes, and fewer benefits.
