Still haven't enlarged the roads to catch up with the massive increase in population, no infrastructure improvements. Some things never change.
Okay, pothole alley: I-526 between Savannah highway and International Blvd. Reported this weeks ago to the SC Highway Dept. This has been the case for at least two years.

Still haven't enlarged the roads to catch up with the massive increase in population, no infrastructure improvements. Some things never change.
This is all true but it's not an balanced view if you don't look at the positive changes that have happened in the past decades as well. Schools have vastly improved and are continuing to do so; restaurant and shopping options are much better than they were 30 years ago; Charleston, especially downtown is safer than it used to be (remember what the area around Charleston Place used to be like?) and we have a real airport now! That's just to name a few improvements.
Real estate prices have soared which is, of course, a double-edged sword... great for those who own but not so much for those looking to buy or rent. It's been a boon for a lot of original residents though and has helped fuel the renovation/gentrification of historic Charleston. Many historic buildings were crumbling to the ground when I came here in the 80's.

And now this:
“The good news for Charleston, as The Post and Courier’s David Slade reports, is that U.S. Census Bureau figures suggest most of the state’s new transplants moved to Myrtle Beach, Greenville or York and Lancaster counties outside of Charlotte.”
Can't help but think a good chunk of people here would be happier if after the Naval Base shut down in the 90s the city never managed to get its feet back under it and it just sort of died.... or even worse we become like Myrtle Beach
TBH- Myrtle Beach has some advantages over Charleston. Except for 3-4 choke points you can move around much easier on surface roads/bridges. This means more people are in closer proximity to the desirable features of the area. And the crap ton of tourists means that businesses are typically able to stay open with strong enough summer performance and a minor golf/spowbird bounce. And the tackiness of the tourist traps is really not as disqualifying now that the upper half of the peninsula looks like some bad video game rendering. Beach access is also horrid now so MB wins that one.
The problem wit Charleston is not so much the new comers as them trying to both gatekeep and change areas 5 minutes after arriving.

Low-density development hasn’t worked for Charleston or anywhere else.
When I moved to MTP in 2001 the most vocal opponent of development in MTP was a fellow from NY that had relocated to MTP a few years prior. I cannot remember his name. First name might have been Irv. Anyone remember him?
