What I've never understood is why some people don't seem to shop around for rates. I'm probably old fashioned. I think everyone ought to have an independent insurance agent who can move them around from company to company when rates get that high. Do some people just pick one insurance company and than complain when the rates get high?

You should shop around and see if you can get a better rate through a different insurance provider. The only way to find out if you can get a better rate despite your driving record having violations is to shop. You may find your rates will still be relatively elevated though due to the violations. Since you had two violations, you are going to pay an increase for each violation. In California, the statewide average for example is insurers raise your premium 21% for disobeying a traffic signal or illegal turn. Reckless driving citations result in a 92% increase in premiums, et.

Even if your the violations that resulted in your points didn't cause an insurance claim, having two violations may indicate to insurance that you are at greater risk of a major accident claim or potentially causing an accident where you are at fault (and your insurance has to repair multiple cars at thousands of dollars).

Both incidents were so minor that I did not expect this at all. Are their any Insurance out there that might take these things into consideration.

A single "2-point" infraction isn't minor. Unless you are a "CDL" holder, you shoulda enrolled in traffic school. (CDL holders are not eligible for traffic school.)

Never hurts to shop around.
