It's dangerous to be white In South Africa, the Blacks are just as racist as the Whites were. It was a mistake to award SA the World Cup.

Perfect example of the current South African leadership, ANC Youth League's MALEMA, and the reaction he gets from conscientious senators like Obert Gutu, whose comments are on the page:

The Zimbabwe Situation

under the heading:
With friends like Malema ; who needs enemies?

Malema is a thug dictator in the making. A "communist" that is in his late 20's, never worked a day in his life, drives a Range Rover, lives in a million dollar penthouse in Sandton, has a Rolex and all the designer gear and is involved in all sorts of shady deals and kickbacks. Spends the rest of his time threatening to kill the people that are productive and produce the goods and services that keep the country going.

If that's not a thug dictator in the making, then I guess I don't know what is.

I have a friend that is flying to Joburg from the USA today! So we'll see how it goes for him.

Wanneroo : ^^ Hear hear!!
Malema is instigating violence and racism constantly. Unfortunately, many of the followers are through intimidation and the example he gives. This guy graduated from high school with one subject, carpentry.
Mbeki did his best to eliminate the "Scorpions" (created by Mandela) which was the all powerful IRS fed force that clamped down on corruption and investigated suddenly wealthy or "enriched" members of government........I wish that they were still able to complete their function.
Safe travel for your friend.....probably better to be there before the World Cup and not during it.

Yes but under apartheid it was Blacks doing those crimes to other Blacks, that's how they act. Like in the USA, young Black men kill young Black men.

The Whites were safe because apartheid kept them separate from the Black crimes, this is no longer the case. Under apartheid, the cities were clean, modern, and looked like the First World.

This isn't really true. When Whites got to South Africa the Blacks were still living tribal hunter-gatherer society. White South Africa brought European advancement, written language, etc.

Not only that under apartheid, the state made homelands for the Black ethnic groups and built them schools, hospitals, etc. Hell the biggest hospital on the continent was established in Soweto!

Whites were living in conditions considered "a developed nation" because they brought them there and built it up! That's why.

Well, the Bantus, who got to southern Africa before any whites, were farmers, not hunter gatherers. Actually that caused a lot of problems with the Bushmen etc., who were indeed still hunter gatherers, and still are today to a certain extent. They are still looked upon as Neanderthals in Botswana and probably not only there.

So going back to the original posting.

Pretoria is mostly afrikaans, so you may find it difficult with the language. They also have a great deal of students, so it is a younger area. North of Pretoria may be nice.

If you want best of both sides, maybe the Midrand/Centurion side is good. There are a lot of sports areas out there.

Johannesburg, stay away from Johannesburg Central. You may do well to look at Broadacres, Dainfern area, Fourways (lots of things to do). Parkhurst is also good, older neighborhood very trendy, more expensive.

Sandton and North Johannesburg is more english so you may be better suited to that.

Neuling: The Koi and Xai Xai (Bushmen)are the true OWNERS of the southern continent. The Blacks invaded from the north and slayed them like sheep.
Why?
Because the Bushman does not have it in him to be violent, aggressive or raise a hand against another human being. It is their custom, still practiced today. They are great people and I have lived with them on many occasions during my lifetime to study their habits, customs and traditions.

ABbaby: I agree with your comments. Thank you! I must also add that it is ALWAYS necessary to look over your shoulder, doesn't matter where you are, while in South Africa.
