Its not a mindset of the Americas. If one looks at those African nations where either there was no indigenous population, or it was erased, one would see the same thing. I refer to Cabo Verde and the Seychelles, which are considered parts of Africa. I suspect that whites in southern Africa would more likely see themselves as "African" than those remaining in West Africa, where the indigenous populations have dominated over the past 60-70 years.
