I just found out that students within that district can also choose to go to East Syracuse-Minoa for high school as well. High School Choices | Lyncourt School District

I believe that the addition of ES-M is new again, as I believe that it was an option decades ago. I also believe that North Syracuse HS, before it combined with Cicero HS in 1983 to form Cicero-North Syracuse HS, was another option in the past as well.

Just to add, many of the children in the district may also opt to attend Bishop Grimes Jr./Sr. HS in East Syracuse as well.

Also, this another good to know about this, as this is something a family could consider if they have children(along with the Onondaga Central SD): OCC Advantage - OCC Advantage - Onondaga Community College

So, while these aren’t the school districts that are always touted on the lists, there are still potential opportunities out there through these SD’s that could put your child ahead of the game without or with less debt, if college is an option.
Some home/property listings for these school districts, for those interested.

Just to add to this, having a grocery store in the North Valley(where that Tops was located)/nearby portion of the South Side is needed as well.

CENTERSTATE CEO, JUBILEE HOMES TO PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR DRONE COURSE AT UPCOMING DRONE EVENT

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — CenterState CEO, in partnership with Jubilee Homes of Syracuse Inc., will offer scholarships for those interested in completing the FAA’s part 107 course during the upcoming New York State Drone Expo and Race Competition.

The event, hosted by the Finger Lakes Drone Racing Club, is set for Nov. 17 and 18 at the new Expo Center at the New York State Fairgrounds.

Canandaigua–based SkyOp LLC, a firm that specializes in drone training, will offer the part 107 course on Nov. 18, CenterState CEO said in a Friday news release.

The SkyOP course prepares individuals to take the part 107 exam, also known as the “airman knowledge test.” The successful completion of this test allows drone pilots to fly unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) for business purposes, such as environmental monitoring, event photography, and house inspection.

Encouraging this certification is “critical to developing a talent pool ready to meet the needs of businesses that are part of strengthening the region’s position as a global leader in the unmanned systems industry,” CenterState CEO contended.

Applications are due Nov. 14 and are available by connecting with Carolyn Evans-Dean, at cevansdean@nativesunventuras.com

FRONTIER, ALLEGIANT START NON-STOP FLIGHTS FROM SYRACUSE TO FORT MYERS, FLORIDA

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Denver, Colorado–based Frontier Airlines and Las Vegas, Nevada–based Allegiant (NASDAQ: ALGT) on Thursday launched non-stop flights from Syracuse Hancock International Airport to Fort Myers, Florida.

Frontier is also beginning direct flights from Syracuse to Tampa as well. The Allegiant flights from Syracuse will land at Punta Gorda Airport.

Each airline had announced its respective new service back in August.

Frontier flights

Frontier, which describes itself as a “low-fare carrier,” is offering direct flights to Southwest Florida International Airport and Tampa International Airport, the airline said in a Wednesday news release.

The flights to Florida will means that Frontier will have a total of six nonstop destinations from Syracuse since announcing in April that it would begin operating from Hancock Airport.

The new flights join Frontier’s existing service from Syracuse to Orlando and summer seasonal service to Chicago, Denver, and Raleigh.

Officials observed the occasion with a celebration at the Frontier ticket counter.

“We are excited to celebrate the launch of Frontier’s newest destinations from Syracuse and for their continued partnership with the airport authority,” Christina Callahan CM, executive director of Syracuse Hancock International Airport, said in the release. “With the addition of Fort Myers and Tampa, our customers now have even more affordable options to Florida.”

In an email response to a BJNN inquiry when the flights were first announced in August, Callahan also noted that the new Frontier service does qualify for the authority’s incentive program which will includes a combination of fee waivers and marketing assistance.

To mark the start of its new service to Fort Myers and Tampa, Frontier is offering one-way fares “as low as” $59, under certain conditions. Fares must be purchased by 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on Friday for non-stop travel. Travel is valid through February 13, 2019.

Allegiant flights

The new seasonal Allegiant flights operate twice weekly between Punta Gorda Airport and Syracuse Hancock International Airport.

With the addition of Fort Myers/Punta Gorda, Allegiant offers nonstop service to seven destinations from Syracuse. They include Nashville, Tennessee; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and four cities in Florida that include Fort Lauderdale; Orlando / Sanford; and Tampa / St. Petersburg. It’s also offering service to Sarasota / Bradenton, beginning April 3, 2019.

Allegiant’s service to Punta Gorda “is eligible for the [Syracuse Regional Airport Authority’s] incentive program, which includes a combination of fee waivers and marketing assistance,” Callahan told BJNN in an Aug. 21 email when the service was first announced.

Allegiant is offering one-way fares on the new route to Fort Myers / Punta Gorda for “as low as” $79. Seats and dates are limited and fares are not available on all flights. Flights must be purchased by Friday for travel by Feb. 28, 2019.

This should help make villages become a more viable option for those looking for a walkable community in the area.

ONONDAGA COUNTY ANNOUNCES PLAN FOR “ENHANCED” VILLAGE-IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Onondaga County Legislature will consider a plan for an “enhanced” village-improvement program “to address the growing need to invest” in the county’s villages.

Onondaga County Executive J. Ryan McMahon II; David Knapp, chairman of the Onondaga County Legislature; and Mark Olson, mayor of the Village of Fayetteville and president of the Onondaga County Mayor’s Association on Wednesday announced the new agreement on the program

Lawmakers will vote on the plan at either their Dec. 18 meeting or the Jan. 2 meeting, Knapp said as the group addressed reporters in the county executive’s office Wednesday morning.

In his remarks, McMahon said the current plan with the villages is set to expire. He also called the new plan the “first real large intergovernmental win for the community for the next 10 years of this administration.”

“This is funding that goes to our villages that addresses their capital needs, their public-safety needs, their neighborhood-development needs, and helps stabilize property taxes,” said McMahon.

The program calls for the allocation of $5.25 million to be made available starting Jan. 1, 2020, per an Onondaga County news release on the topic.

It will increase to $5.5 million 2023, $5.75 million in 2026, and $6 million in 2029. The program will run for a period of 10 years.
