....I should also add...that snow/power grid issue faced by a good chunk of Texas this past winter....would not be a probability up in Massena. With a multi state power grid to pull from..and everyone from local govts to the state prepared for dealing with winter weather...that situation would not have happened up there. Yes, the absolutely h#llish ice storm of 98' was bad..both up in that area and southern Canada. That was a once in a LONG time bad weather event. In my area we got a 100 yr snow event in December...33" in 24 hours. Not welcome to be sure..but all roads were made passable within 2 days from that weather surprise (and the pwr stayed on!). Never have to worry about a lack of water/wells/or drought upstate.

^Your post just reminded me of something that would be important to the OP. Massena(town, different municipality than the village) is a NYPA customer municipality. Meaning, it has its own electric company and in turn means low(er) electric rates. So, for low electric rates compared to other municipalities that have say National Grid or NYSEG, look into properties within the town of Massena.

Some more information: Massena Electric Department

...Maybe I'm wrong on this..but in a pwr down situation..can't areas like Massena pull pwr from the state/interstate grid?

I believe so, but that is a guess on my part.

I did find this on the NYPA website: “NYPA owns and operates approximately one third of New York’s high voltage power lines. These lines transmit power from NYPA’s three large hydroelectric generation facilities and independent wind power generation facilities, connecting nearly 7,000 megawatts of renewable energy to New York State’s power grid. This includes connecting more than 6,300 megawatts of hydroelectric power and about 700 megawatts, or more than a third, of New York State generated wind energy to the grid. NYPA is the largest state public power organization in the nation, operating more than 1,400 circuit miles of transmission lines and 16 generating facilities.”

This power project is actually in Massena: https://www.nypa.gov/power/generatio...-power-project

It is looking like we are being relocated to Massena New York in October, right before any winter weather hits so google says. Does anyone have any idea about the housing market as I understand that there are no rentals? Also any idea about the taxes for Massena and surrounding areas? Is there a website that I am missing that will tell about license plates and driver's licenses like where to go and how much? Thank everyone again for all the information and advice it means a lot thank you.

For the DMV, there is a Massena location: https://stlawco.org/Departments/CountyClerk/DMV

Also, would you look for apartments in nearby communities? I’m thinking of the Norwood-Norfolk and Potsdam areas.

Homes are pretty affordable in the area: https://www.realtor.com/realestatean...68,10&qdm=true

Homes in the Norwood-Norfolk SD: https://www.realtor.com/realestatean...,-74.849476,11

Potsdam SD(about 30 minutes from Massena, give or take): https://www.realtor.com/realestatean...93061?view=map

Another nearby area, Madrid-Waddington: https://www.realtor.com/realestatean...91041?view=map

and another Brasher Falls(St. Lawrence HS): https://www.realtor.com/realestatean...94411?view=map

Some apartments in the county: https://www.apartmentfinder.com/New-...q-oor8kIygqp2d

Hope this helps…
