A lot of people are discussing investments. Let me tell you Watertown, NY needs more things for children. Between Watertown and Fort Drum you can get a good clientell. If I were to move back up to Watertown I would look at opening a Little Gym, Gymboree or Rolly Pollies(something like one of those). They have a dance studio and it gets packed! I dont know how many people I talk to back home that have young children but there is nothing they can get them into. Good luck
We are soon moving to Watertown and have been there twice now to visit to "check it out". It is easy to see that there is expansion and transitiion happening--a good sign indeed. My family and I were struck though at the very thing that Njrover has mentioned. Not a whole lot for kids to do. Here at home (Michigan) there is a kid's tumble and play gymnasium that is quite popular. We also have a sports dome that houses inline skating, soccer, wall climbing, etc. Both of these places have a very reasonable admission price and provide hours of fun. In the summer there is a place that offers batting cages, mini-golf, go carts and water bumper boats. It is always packed. Lastly, most popular with my family are the large and numerous parks, two of which have water spray parks the operate in the summer. The parks are free and my son's have a blast playing at the water park on hot summer days. (Thompson Park would be a great place for a spray park!) Our area is rich with apple orchards that are extremely busy this time of year. In addition to apple picking and the cider mill, almost all have bakery/gift shops attached, hayrides, pumpkin patches, corn mazes, etc. Lastly we have an excellent city rec program that offers services and programs too numerous to list but include arts and crafts, sports teams, theater, cooking,etc.
We were only in Watertown for a couple of days each time and I am sure that there are many,many things left for us to discover for entertainment. However, making the area as family-friendly as possible, especially as you look toward the growth and betterment of your town, is a wise thing to do.
My family and I look forward to our move and are excitedly anticipating getting to know Watertown. Everyone we have met there so far has just been fabulous. It will be a nice place to call home.
Hopefully you'll find plenty for your children to do in Watertown, No, not as much as your used to, but there is a Ymca, and it offers lots of programs. It has indoor soccer, gymnastics and others. One is learn to skate, (ice) at the Watertown Fairgrounds Rink, Watn Rec. also offers public skating, Figure Skating and Youth Hockey. There is a Sci-tech center in town. Nothing big, but fun for an afternoon. Old McD. farm in Sackets is a popular place in the summer. Dry hill ski area is just out of town, ski & snowboard lessons all winter. You can rent equipment. or go Tubing its a blast.
We also have a Cider Mill, in burrville 10 minutes from Watn. it has alot of history and a beautiful waterfall outback. & halloween activities to include Plenty of Haunted Houses. Apple & Pumpkin picking just 30 minutes away in Mexico. ( all have hay rides and the whole nine yards) Even Xmas tree picking ..
There are go-carts, batting cages, minigolf, parks, pools and beaches around. Abay has a free beach in town, has a tiny playground and usually a life guard on duty. Go swimming all afternoon, eat out and then enjoy a Movie or 2 at the Drive-In at night.
Those are just a few things I can think of, course the schools offer alot in the way of sports and activites..

There is a gymnastics class that just recently opened. They are located in the Empsall Building, Downtown (315) 286-3266. It is for boys and girls ages 1 to 9. They give a free sample class to see if your child likes it. It is not a Gymboree...but it is not bad.
I know that this thread is old, but this facility would fill a need potentially to attract more tournaments, perhaps a minor league basketball team or the current minor league hockey team could play here. There is the potential for other events as well.
