Good info and pics on Pahrump. I've had my eye there for awhile since it's slower paced with wide open spaces and close proximity to Vegas and SoCal. I'd move there today, but I got to have high speed internet to make a living. I read somewhere one of the major cable companies put up a tower near Pahrump and also read in one of your posts of a line going along Rte 160. So hopefully high speed internet in Pahrump is a reality soon.

We have 3 stop lights in town - all of them are on Hwy 160. Every other intersection is 2 or 4 way stop. NDOT is responsible for any maintenance on Hwy 160, Nye County handles all of the other road ways.

I've numbered this as if you are coming in from Vegas, which is the direction most of our traffic comes thru town.

#1 – Hwy 160 & Homestead/Winery Rd
Shell gas station/convenience store, Maverik gas station/convenience store & the Kingdom (gentleman’s night club). The Kingdom is the only strip club in town (at least that I know of). When it was built, the owner told everyone it would be a "family friendly" restaurant. Residents were QUITE upset when it opened as a strip club. I think the biggest problem with it? It's right there, smack dab on the main drag. Had it been built on a side street, there wouldn't have been such a big hoo-haa about it.

#2 – Hwy 160 & Hwy 372
Rebel gas station/convenience store & Walgreens, Bank of America, Gold Town casino & Union 76 gas station/convenience store, Nugget casino. If you take Hwy 372, in ~30 minutes you will be in Shoshone, California. It's the easiest place for us to go to purchase lottery tickets.

#3 – Hwy 160 & Basin
Rebel gas station/convenience store, County offices, empty strip mall & Home Depot, Pahrump Rentals.

We have our own museum, which has some pretty cool things in it. It is located on Basin, turn left at the 3rd stoplight, not far from the intersection.

The contents are not necessarily things from Pahrump - some items are just from NV itself, some are Pahrump, others are from further away. At one time they had political campaign buttons from Presidental elections, as well as state elections. One room is NOTHING but Abraham Lincoln stuff! The more recent addition contains items from Yucca Mountain - when Yucca was open & the Department of Defense was giving tours (I wish I woulda gone!!), they had a fascinating display set up here in town. When Yucca Mtn closed, the DoD simply abandoned the display. Nye County took it over for a while & has recently given it to the museum to upkeep. IMO, it was better when the DoD & Nye County had it. The way they have it set up in the museum doesn't give you the same feeling/impact as it did before.

The museum has a small garden area, which displays some of the plants that will grow here. Originally Pahrump produced cotton, so they have a small cotton garden too.

There is a few out buildings to explore which are pretty interesting. A 1 room school house, a replica of a normal house back in the day, etc, etc.

Our main park - I think we only have 2 or 3 of 'em. This is Petrack Park, ~35 acres located at the 3rd stop light (Basin & Hwy 160) & is maintained by the Town. This is where we have a lot of events:

* fireworks shows
* Pahrump Valley Cruisers Show & Shine (April)
* Fall Festival (Sept)
* Pow Wow (Nov)
* during the summer months we have "Movies in the Park"
* various horse events during the year
* softball leagues (summer & winter)
* Relay for Life
* ren faire (I use this term lightly - we usually hear NOTHING about it, even after it's left town & the times I've "seen" the faire? There are maybe 10 people in costume, play fighting with swords)

This park has 2 lit softball fields; 2 permanent consessions stands; large & small playground equipment; 2 lit tennis courts; lit basketball court; 6 lit horseshoe pits; a rodeo arena & an olympic sized community pool.

^^^ like living in 1955, man you have no idea!

This place was originally cotton & alfafa fields. No telephone service until the 1960s, yes you read that correctly. I think power lines were installed in the 1950's, phone service ~10 yrs later, paved roads shortly thereafter. First high school built in the 1970s. In 1980 the population was somewhere close to 2000 people, compared to today with ~38,000.

Yep, we're a little behind the times in just about everything
