Couldn't tell you- we have neither in Montana. However we have one of the best burger places in the country- https://roadhousegf.com/

Local beef, locally baked buns, multiple award winning. Even if there are chain burger places around I doubt I would go.

We too have a great burger place that is cheap but fresh, tasty food, so when in the mood for a fast food burger it's Dick's Drive-in, I'd take them over either In N Out or Shake Shack. They have no seating, we will usually eat in the car. Have a look at the prices, and this is in Seattle and Bellevue, WA:

That's cheap! I read from their site they own quite a number of their locations (real estate) so their overhead is low compared to competitors which is super nice. Next time I find one on a trip west we'll try them.

I know the one I showed in my post serves some big burgers from pretty expensive beef, and their real estate costs as much higher. $13 a lunch isn't out of line in this state. It ain't cheap contrary to what others may think.

I prefer In-N-Out to Shake Shack. (But I prefer Five Guys to them both.)

I hate In-N-Out french fries. They are among my least favorite. They are so thin they go cold really fast.

Shake Shake. Inn and Out is the most overrated fast food in American.

If you haven't had a chance, try Wayback Burgers. I think they would give Shake Shack a run for it's money.

On the North Shore of MA, we have no In-n-Out, and no Shake Shack closeby anyways. I do quite like Five Guys though, and Fuddruckers - there's one of those on Rte 1 on the drive back home from the office on onsite days - elk burgers and buffalo burgers! Of the ubiquitous burger chain joints, I like Wendys.
