Not sure when the start date is. It is one hell of a project though. Hope it all comes together.

Riverchase Development Moving Forward

A leading Phenix City developer on Monday unveiled plans for a multimillion-dollar riverfront development that would include upscale apartments, restaurants and hotels off the U.S. 280 Bypass. A sketch of the project shows development planned for north and south of the Bypass, including a swath of retailers and eateries that will someday rival Columbus Park Crossing. City leaders intend to offer Bowden the same tax incentives they recently extended to the developer of the Brickyard, a $220 million project that also includes plans for riverfront condominiums, hotels and restaurants and entertainment across the Chattahoochee River from the Columbus Civic Center. The developers of both projects will be allowed to retain half of the local lodging and sales tax generated by the new growth, and the city also agreed to provide water and sewer infrastructure.

The first part -- a high-end, multi-family apartment complex -- is already in the designing phase. Flournoy Development, one of the Southeast's largest multifamily development companies (based in Columbus), expects to break ground next spring on a 346-unit complex, which will abut Lake Oliver and include nature trails and gazebos. The complex will be a class A project that will include a boat ramp and watercraft storage.

The developer is in talks with several hotels and retail establishments. Hopefully they will be announced in the coming months.

Glad to see this project moving forward!!

Word on the street is that Bass Pro is going to Midland and not Riverchase. Utility lines are already being laid on the old Swift site where BP is rumored to go.

IMHO, the area doesn't need a Costco. What are needed are (sorry if this sounds snobbish) nicer shopping areas, with things like Whole Foods, Nordstrom (or Nordstrom's Rack), REI, etc. This is what will be needed in the future to continue attracting higher paying jobs.

I agree. Hopefully with time those will come. Whole Foods is highly likely IMO.
