Just grabbed this as my next Audible book. I have not watched the series or movie. Comments on the book?

A wonderful book. Doerr is a skilled writer.

I really enjoyed the book. Anthony Doerr is probably the best author I have read at making a physical space come alive. He made me "see" the streets of Paris in this book and then in Cloud Cuckoo Land I felt like I was living within the walls of Constantinople.

I just started the Netflix special and am watching with my husband who did not read the book and we are a bit confused with episode 1. I'll give it time to develop.

I thought it was very good. Kept me interested throughout but then I gravitate to WWll stories.

As soon as I finish (listening to) Foundation I will cue up this book.

I gravitate to science fiction and have read and enjoyed most of the classics over the years. Recently I have been trying to catchup on so called classic scfi books that I had not yet read. However Neuromancer, The Left Hand of Darkness, The Three Body Problem, The Dispossessed and even Foundation I have found hard to love (unlike the Dune series, the Hyperion series, etc.). That is why I will probably put on hold the next two Foundation books.

I adored the book, but the series was for me a profound disappointment. Important plot segments were altered or simply amputated from the script (most notably, the denouement). My daughter and I found each other staring in disbelief at the end.

Whenever I've really liked a book, I can't watch any adaptation to screen. It NEVER seems to come close to the book.

Completely agree!!! The series was such a disappointment! There was so little character development of Werner and his sister Jutta including their tight bond and their experience in the orphanage. The actress playing Marie-Laure was perfect for the role, but other than that - a sad flop for me.
