I agree with this statement as well I was just pointing out child molesting just isn't in Catholic churches.

Saw this news story re recent letter Sister Cathy's sister sent the Baltimore archdiocese about a letter from the archbishop--
Apparently they are still trying to plead "we knew nothing about Maskell being a predator"
Pathetic and morally repugnant...makes you wonder if anyone who lies like the archbishop did could be involved as pedophile himself...

She said she had finally had her period after being about 10 days late and was "moody", right?

That would imply that she was not pregnant, but had most likely done the deed, with him I assume.

In that era, when women were having sex outside marriage "being late" was always a scary event because if you had had sex (especially if they used the rhythm method vs practical birth control like a condom) then being late was strong sign you could be pregnant...
There were no pregnancy sticks like now...

So yes--I definitely took that to mean she and the priest had had intercourse--who knows for how long/often--and she had told him that she was late at some earlier point--
Why else have to tell him now that she had her period 10 days past normal start...
I don't think that is the kind of information a woman -- nun or not--usually shared with just a male friend...it would have had to be someone she was intimate with...

I can't believe the police found a letter with that type of compromising information and didn't consider the priest as the primary suspect...
The fact that she wasn't pregnant didn't mean there was no reason to get rid of her--
Maybe she didn't want to end the relationship and he did---he lied about the level of intimacy
Maybe he didn't want her to go forward with the complaints against Mansell--maybe he was worried about his reputation and the diocese's...

I've only seen "The Keepers" once on Netflix & need to watch it again at some point to refresh my memory on the details. However, given it's disturbing nature - it's going to be a while before I do that.

I am torn as to whether the priest Sister Cathy was probably "dating" had anything to do with her death. I somehow doubt this. It's much more likely Fr. M. was responsible due to the fact that she said she was going to tell the authorities about what what he was doing.

However, at this point, it's been so long since these events occurred that I doubt anyone can get prosecuted for this crime.

That being said, it would be great if somehow closure can be reached in this case. Unfortunately, so many who may have been involved here have either passed - or gotten elderly - so that we will probably never really know what happened...

Interesting that the Australian Cardinal is being brought to book finally over all the reported assaults he himself committed vs just covered up for other priests
Apparently Pope Francis is not as gung ho to go after predators as he is climate abusers

I think unfortunately while the current Pope's intentions are good...I think there is a whole system in place that deliberately keeps info from the Pope...I think until a younger Pope is put in place nothing much is going to change within the church...

You are saying Francis did not know ??
Not credible--he just chose the Cardinal's version over the police and accusers' version...
Did not even hesitate before moving him into position of greater power/influence

Saw in same article that Francis saw a protest march in Latin ir South American country of abused victims and those criticizing the Church's protective practices...
His reaction was to call them something like Marxists...
Totally in denial that a good Catholic could find fault with Mother Church...
Apparently it is ok to protest againt climate deniers but not about pedophile priests...

I think there has to be a sweeping change from top to bottom...new broom to sweep all the deviants and apologists...
