I just never come away thrilled from Cootie Brown's although I know the owner and she is a sweet person. Babylon, omg, fantastic!

That's a pretty good rundown. Although I'd put Longhorn's steaks on equal footing with Chop House.

I'd also give a nod to Canteen in JC for sandwiches. Rush Street in Kingsport also has good pizza and burgers. Also can't forget Sloopy's for burgers.

I did end up eating at Fatz in Kingsport, TN on Thanksgiving with a couple of family members. The food was great and we had a very friendly and attentive server. We all really enjoyed it and I'd say will eat there again next year as well for Thanksgiving.

Fats is good and better than Cheddar's IMO, but both are chains and don't reflect anything really local.

This place in Roan Mountain sounds fantastic, will have to try it next time I venture over that way:
A Saturday road trip to pizza perfection in Roan Mountain | Johnson City Press

Some other notable eateries that get rave reviews but may not be as well known as they should be:
* Korean Taco House, JC
* Bello Vita, JC (Italian)
* Red Chili, Elizabethton (Korean)
* The Waterwheel Cafe, Roan Mountain (burgers, sandwiches, etc; closed in winter)
* Thai Am, Hampton
* Thai Noodle Town, Kingsport
* Braeden's Barbeque, Kingsport
* Sloopy's Diner, Kingsport (burgers, sandwiches, burritos)
* Cafe Alona, Bristol, TN (international cuisine)

I've been meaning to try Thai Noodle Town, I've heard from several people that it's quite good. It's close to me as well but I just never seem to get around to eating there.

I ate there for the first time a few months ago & loved it. The ambiance isn't anything to brag about but the food sure is!

Here are two more excellent restaurants in JC that are definitely worth checking out:
Angkor Bistro offers unique opportunity to sample Cambodian cuisine - The Compass
Eavesdropping rewarded with trip to Johnson City's Mediterranean Garden

Anyone know anything about/have experience with "Athens", supposedly an "old time" steak house in Bristol? It seems to be off the beaten track, but surely diners would find their way to a good steak house in the tri cities if one existed. Anyone have any knowledge/comments about this place?
