Interesting opinion by a makeup artist. I don't agree with everything.

Watch the 2 min. video exclusive in the article for eye makeup. She makes up each eye differently.

I've never been into using black eye liner. It's always seemed too harsh and heavy...even when I was young.

I’m 77, here’s my list:

I agree eyeliner can look harsh, never use it, even when young it made my small eyes look smaller, not bigger. I still use some mascara.
Bright or dark lipstick. I use a nude or pink shade, subtle colors.
Foundation that is not close to skin color, looking like a mask.
Too much blush can look clownish, use less.

I read somewhere else that older women might not see well, I am one so I try to be careful.
I want to look good for my age, I’m satisfied with that.

I use a moisturize. When I use makeup, I use a dewy foundation, concealer, blush and an eye highlighter crayon. It's just enough to spiff me up if I need a lift. In the summer, I let the sun do the work.

I've hated that thick black eyeliner for 40 years. It looks especially bad on women with light hair and skin.

My favorite makeup artist is Aly Art. https://www.youtube.com/@AlyArt/search?query=makeup

I think that's a problem when you see uneven eyeliner or lip liner like Joan Collins. Also could be lack of good light when applying.

There is a 70ish woman I occasionally see in my neighborhood and the first time I saw her I thought she'd had laser skin resurfacing or a chemical peel because her face was so red. Upon closer inspection it was blusher!

As a senior woman I've noticed less is more. Softer, more earthy tones.

A touch of blonde mascara just on the outer lashes, something light and bright in the middle of the eyelid and a slightly darker tone on the outer lid and toward the temple.

Just a whisper of blush along the cheekbone and extended lightly toward the temple. A darker shade under and along the jaw line.

Lipstick a couple of tones darker than my natural color.

A touch of highlighter for evening on brow, down middle of nose and top of lip.

Many days, just some brightening foundation and lip gloss and save the makeup for special. My eyes seem to have absorbed shadow powder over the years and actually look naturally shaded.

Smile a lot. That's the best makeup you can wear!

For running errands in the neighborhood, I do my brows and wear lipstick. Sunglasses take the place of eye makeup and never come off! Tinted sunscreen evens up my skin tone a bit. My current favorite is Babo.

I’m 69.

I use black liner on my waterline. It doesn’t look awful, does not seem to make me look older or like I am trying too hard.

I also use black mascara. The mascara brings out the color of my eyes, greenish grey.

Day to day, though, like for work, I use brown liner on my waterline and no mascara.

To each his own.

I agree, to each his own. So many times we state our opinions and it DOES sound like we're passing judgements. I didn't mean to imply any judgements. Black eyeliner just doesn't do me any favors. ;-)
