Nice development for the area.

The article talks a bit about why they're moving out of Mississippi, so here's the parts about Columbus from it:

Quote:
The team announced their intentions on social media Tuesday. That came after Shea Gunn, executive vice president Diamond Baseball Holdings, which owns the team, agreed to terms with the City of Columbus, Georgia, during their city council meeting Tuesday.
Quote:
Columbus Council voted to OK a lease with Diamond Baseball Holdings to bring a Minor League team back to Golden Park, after about a 90-minute closed meeting. That means the city will spend up to $50 million in a bond issue to upgrade the 1920s ball park to Minor League standards. The lease council approved was for 20 years, with the option of five-year renewals.
Quote:
At a previous city council meeting Columbus, Georgia, Mayor Skip Henderson has previously stated that he believes that landing a minor league team would be the first step in an economic development project.

“Baseball to me is not in the center ring,” he told the Columbus Ledger Enquirer newspaper. “The center ring is the development that’s going to change the lives of people in south Columbus; it’s going to increase revenues; it’s going to benefit the entire community.”

It should, the new name will be GA Braves of course and checking facts and stats on other Minor League Stadiums, the city of Fayetteville, NC spent $44M on Segra Field and it’s definitely nice! So imagine $50M in renovations along with $250M+ in urban developments surrounding the stadium. That entire area will probably become the Entertainment District or similar if we’re honest. The name South Commons isn’t it lol.

Really wish it will be Columbus Braves! It will help build our name recognition and brand and help make us more of a destination! Also market us for economic growth seing that we have more entertainment here! I like Birminghams stadium and Greenville Drives! When you check them out look at the economic built up thats resulted around them! Even the Mississippi Braves developed a Bass Pro shop there across from the stadium...so no telling what we might see! Exciting times for sure!

A prime piece of land ripe for development is where the old BTW apartments once stood.

That’s being developed also. The housing authority have a project in the works. They just took forever reconnecting 5th St. It’s going to be more commercial retail and some affordable housing.

Naming it Georgia Braves sounds like it would be confusing. If you tell someone you went to a Georgia Braves game they might think you are referring to the Atlanta Braves if they aren't familiar with the area and minor league baseball. Is that a working title or the finalized name for the team?
