Between the highway, the river, and the skatepark...its a little boxed in. Im wondering if the skatepark/part of the Civic Center parking lot will be consumed by this construction.
When you take into account new development trends, a lot of them have the parking sitting above the retail stores, then the apartments or office space on top of the garage. And yes the garage is visible when looking up. This allow them to save on construction costs and time just to build below ground then come right back up and vertical. And those parking lots at the Civic Center are huggeeeee like if they can host a fair and parking, I’m sure developers will be able to design some really nice urban buildings and elements that blend into Golden Park.

Yeah if I know anything it’s that developers can put anything in a small space
That’s is plenty of space for development

Global payments is supposedly tied in with this current mess and word around is this is the final hurrah for the mayor/city council to salvage the uptown area business model failure with high turnovers, low tourist numbers which were verified by the city for last year and a massive loss on the ill fated music festival last october.
The only thing they are banking on is the alabama casino vote and possibility of one of the 8 or 9 casinos built statewide will be nearby although that may suck what few dollars are left locally away as well.
Now they want to pay people to come here and have coffee with mayor.
Our neighbors across the river are dumping unwanted animals and the homeless etc on our doorstep to contend with to add to a big problem we have already yet they come to get our food giveaways at the civic center and pet food from PAWS at the mall on a regular basis yet they are worried about our border.
Now they say we are in the beginnings of a big baby boomer homeless problem locally and our parks and roads are a total mess.

I know your MO is to be a doom and gloom type of person but I have to ask. What are you doing to improve this city besides going on forums and facebook and bashing it? Do you participate in the city cleanups? Do you report illegal dumping to the 311 app 0r email your councilor or a city department? Do you donate your time to any city efforts or youth groups? And before you ask, yes I do all of those things. What exactly is your goal? If you hate everything about this city then move. It’s a very simple solution. I don’t consider half a billion dollars in new investment in the last 6 years a failure. Greenville took a chance years ago and it has paid dividends. When you have an opportunity to create $400 million dollars in private investment you have to give it a shot. Will it be the end all be all for Columbus maybe and maybe not but you can’t continue to do nothing and expect something to change.I believe 10 years from now people will look back and say this was a great decision. They say if you’re not part of the solution then you’re part of the problem. Right now you’re just part of the problem but I invite you to become part of the solution.

I have a large well known presence in our community and not reflected upon like you folks who would be happy to have a new fruit stand in the middle of 185 by your cookie cutter posts.
Our group has watched our city decline in a major way in all aspects since late 70's as we have lost far more than we had gained in city functions much less morality with constant comparisons to other cities whose operations are much more advanced than Columbus and are smaller.
You poor folks float along downstream and accept whatever crumbs offered and then patronize people with accusations of being part of the problem......makes sense to me.

....That means the city will spend up to $50 million in a bond issue to upgrade the 1920s ball park to Minor League standards. The lease council approved was for 20 years, with the option of five-year renewals.

Minor League Standards are pretty high. Their stadium in Jackson was very nice and in a good location. We'll miss them out there, but.... life goes on.
There are good minor league teams in Memphis and Biloxi, so those of us who are fans still get to see good baseball. Need to bring a gun when you go to Memphis, though!
Atlanta, Gwinnet, Rome, and now Columbus - Y'all got Braves baseball all over the state.
