Agreed about Texas being overhyped.

Here's some observations.

> In the Top 10: Three of the top five are SEC and three of top seven are B1G
> Only one Group of five school in the top 25 (typical)
> PAC 12 has five teams in the poll, and its going to be the last year of the conference as we know it.
> Texas is being over hyped (again)
> Oklahoma and Notre Dame are only ranked based on name recognition.
Oklahoma lost 5 games by 7 points or less last year. So with some luck, they could’ve been 11-2 last year.

Looking ahead to this year, they are much stronger defensively, plus their QB is back. Gabriel isn’t ever going to be a great pro QB, but he’s pretty good as a college QB.

Lastly, this years schedule is really weak. The Sooners don’t have to play very many quality teams.

So their #20 ranking seems about right to me. If everything goes well, they will probably win 9, 10 or 11 games.

If the ranks "hold pat"

1. Georgia 13-0
2. Michigan 13-0
3. Ohio State 11-1
4. Alabama 12-1
5. LSU 11-1
6. USC 13-0
7. Penn State 10-2

21. UNC 11-1
22. Ole Miss 9-3
23. Texas AM 8-4
24. Tulane 12-1
25. Iowa 10-2

The Bold would be your 4 playoff teams. They would be 1,2,3,4 in a final ranking.

I'll start the prediction pages again. Like the last few year's I'll try to post all weeks by noon Eastern Tuesday; the weeks will run from Thursday to Wednesday, all games will be on Saturday unless noted. But my schedule is a lot more busy this year than it was the last 2 years, so I may shorten some of the weeks and or get them in later. With that out of the way, lets get to the first set of games taking place this coming Saturday, which we will call week 0 (because we'll do the official week 1 with the rest of the week 1 schedule later on)

Week 0, all games on Saturday:

Navy vs. Notre Dame (@ Dublin, Ireland) 2:30
UTEP @ Jacksonville State 5:30
UMass @ New Mexico State 7:00
Ohio @ San Diego State 7:00
Florida International @ Louisiana Tech 9:00

Navy vs. Notre Dame (@ Dublin, Ireland) 2:30 / Irish in Ireland, doesn't seem fair! I'll be cheering for NAVY as always!
UTEP @ Jacksonville State 5:30 / UTEP is the team I forget about often, so I'll pick'em
UMass @ New Mexico State 7:00 / flip a coin
Ohio @ San Diego State 7:00 / upset! I think
Florida International @ Louisiana Tech 9:00 / shoulder shrug

Predictions are like a certain part of our anatomy. Everyone has one. Here is an opinion piece to debate.

This game is special for me. Not just because I dream of retiring and moving to Ireland, but because over 2 decades ago, my SON was born on labor day weekend, and when he was One day old, on Saturday, I held him as he was awake and we watched Navy play Notre Dame on TV. I remembering him looking at me, looking at the game, just being a peaceful little baby at 6 lbs...tiny too. He still watches football with me now .... And while we watched TV his mom got some much needed sleep, and she still does not watch football now.

UTEP @ JACKSONVILLE STATE 5:30 I would watch because one of the wife's brothers and nephews graduated from Jacksonville State but otherwise, while they have an awesome band, they likely will not show the halftime which may be the highlight of the game. May be UTEPS only win if they get it, or who knows, Jacksonville state may be ready to rock the Conference USA in a way UTEP never could. Either way, UTEP Coaching has had an "Oh Well" attitude for 4 years while Jax State in the Conference for the First year brings an "OH WOW" plan, so the Gamecocks win at home.

UMess @ NEW MEXICO STATE 7:00

Oh-Hell-No @ SAN DIEGO STATE 7:00

Florida International @ Loosey-Anna Tech 9:00
