Sacramento River Trail

Sacramento River Trail is located in Redding, California and can be accessed near Keswick Dam, Turtle Bay Exploration Park, Mount Shasta Mall at Hilltop and Dana. Visitors to the trail can leave their cars at the parking lot on the west side of Court Street, just before the bridge crossing over Sacramento River. The Sacramento River trail system is a 16 mile network running along the banks of California's largest river.

The trail can be used by hikers and cyclists throughout the year although visitors should be aware that when the river is high, some portions of the track may be flooded. There are great views of the Trinity Mountains to be had along the trail, and interpretive signs explain a little about the mining operations here back in the 19th century. Remnants of the old railroad that carried ore as far north as Portland can be seen along the trail too.

Impressive bridges can be seen and crossed along the way including the Sundial Bridge, Sacramento River Trail Bridge and Diestelhorst Bridge. The McConnell Arboretum has pretty gardens and is surrounded by 200 acres of riparian forest and oak trees. As well as interesting trees and plants, visitors may also see lots of birds, turtles and other wildlife.
