He does have THC pills, that have had no effect, but might be useful? Bring these in carry-on, placebo effect?
Or eat a regular gummy and pretend it is a THC gummy for the placebo affect.
Seriously 1 10mg gummy a day is next to nothing, cant imagine more than a very very mild buzz from that dose. Just quit unless you want the added thrill of knowing IF you get caught you could be in for a very bad time. Can't imagine a foreigner doing well in a SA prison.
At the worst going cold turkey from that small amount might make you slightly moody for a couple days with some wild dreams. I would suggest quitting 3 days before the flight so any withdrawal systems are over before the flight.
I would wear a Bob Marley hat and a Cheech and Chong shirt and take as much as you want. It's just South America, your buddy is an American! What's the worst that can happen, they make him watch CSPAN? It's not like they have jails or anything.

I'd like to hear what decision is made on this and how it goes. IMO, he should go cold turkey for awhile. Not healthy to be habitual user of any drug unless medically necessary.
OTOH, those countries are likely to have reasonable MJ laws. Worst case scenario I'd imagine is confiscation and/or fine/bribe.
Jail? Nah, you're thinking about consequences of travelling to a regressive state in US!
Thanks Arktikos, I agree, it's best not to be a slave to any drug or alcohol. It helps with sleep and anxiety. Hard for him to stop these, when anxiety is ratcheted up about trip itself, and discomfort from stopping abruptly or tapering. 10mg/day is a small dose, we've been told?
The overall trend here has been, taper and stop, and don't bring anything with. He doesn't want to stop, but is fine not bringing any with.
I'd tell him to bring sleeping pills because he'll likely have a few poor night's sleep from going cold turkey. This is cannabis not heroine/opiates, withdrawal is mild. Then maybe drink a little more than usual as a replacement or try to score some weed in South America. If he speaks some Spanish and is confident with strangers, it should be easy.
Not knowing anything about gummies, why would you post this? Clearly it's of no benefit to anyone.
All I'll say in response, as another poster mentioned, your rights that you have in the USA, end immediately at the border.
