Description: The Texas Bach Choir has been performing for San Antonio audiences since 1976. TBC sings a variety of choral arrangements from a range of years and styles but specializes in the works of composer Johann Sebastian Bach. Each season there is at least one concert devoted solely to his work. The choir, which has performed all of Bach’s major works for choral choir, is made up of the finest voices in the San Antonio area, who must try out in a competitive audition process.The Texas Bach Choir has performed in many churches and concert halls throughout the San Antonio area. It has also taken two European concert tours, performing in Central and Eastern Europe. In an effort to educate the community about the beauty of choral music, TBC runs educational programs at San Antonio schools.

Description: This preprofessional dance company offers classes in contemporary American ballet for dance students ages 3 to 21, allowing serious young dancers to develop their craft in a nurturing environment. The performing company is made up of dancers ages 11 through 21, who conduct public performances several times a year. The organization raises funds for scholarships to allow deserving students from all economic backgrounds to participate. The conservatory also encourages students from underserved communities, offering free tickets to performances and conducting workshops in schools and social service centers in San Antonio. Classes run from late August through mid-­June.

Description: This contemporary arts gallery was founded by the late Linda Pace, daughter of David Earl Pace of Pace Foods fame (if you’ve been in San Antonio for long, you’ve sampled their picante sauce). The gallery opened its doors in January 1995 and quickly attracted attention with its artists-­in-­residence programs. The 18,000-square-­foot facility houses three artists at a time: one international, one national, and one from the San Antonio region. The artists live and work at ArtPace for two months; at the end of that period there is an exhibition of their work. The gallery is open Wed through Sun from noon to 5 p.m. and by appointment.

Description: The San Antonio Symphony performs in the beautiful Majestic Theatre in downtown San Antonio. Composed of 76 professional musicians, the symphony performs several times a year. The San Antonio Mastersingers is the symphony’s chorus, made up of 120 volunteers from the San Antonio area. The symphony is a highly competitive organization; as many as 600 candidates from around the globe compete for every opening through an anonymous audition process.The symphony’s Young People’s Concert Series, started in 1945, has taught generations of San Antonio youngsters about the joys of music.
