65. Tulsa Symphony Orchestra

City: Tulsa, OK
Category: Shopping
Telephone: (918) 584-3645
Address: 111 E. 1st St.

Description: The Tulsa Symphony Orchestra is fairly new on the scene, having been organized in 2005. Tulsa had been without a major orchestra for several years following the demise of the Tulsa Philharmonic, which had served as the premier orchestral ensemble since 1948.The reorganized orchestra followed a new pattern, with musicians taking a major role in orchestra management. The whole thing works like synchronized swimming—lots of things are happening under the water to make the surface appearance seem effortless. And what the public sees—or in this case, hears—is a solid orchestral sound, with programming that is appealing without being condescending. Not only does the orchestra present a full season of concerts, but the musicians support a number of other performances by arts associations.
