Description: This area is operated by Isleta Pueblo and is right by the Isleta Eagle Golf Course and just opposite the pueblo’s casino. Two lakes are stocked with catfish in spring and summer and rainbow trout for the rest of the year. There is a fish-cleaning station, 44 shelters, picnic areas, and a volleyball court. A store sells tackle and bait, fishing accessories, fishing licenses and permits, and groceries and drinks. Restrooms can be found at both lakes. Daily limits are five fish for adults and three for children, and the recreation area is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. in spring and summer, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in fall and winter. Rates vary for adults, seniors, and children.

Description: This area lies within the Rio Grande Valley State Park. There is a fully accessible fishing pier here, where you can fish for rainbow trout in the Rio Grande. There is also a quarter-mile trail loop beneath the cottonwoods and three picnic areas. Operating hours are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. from April to October and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. from November to March. Access the fishing area from Rio Bravo Boulevard, and turn north on Poco Loco Street, west of 2nd Street, just before the bridge over the river.

Description: There are daily public sessions in this expanded facility. Try to go for a “CooLLoop” session, when Outpost links twin NHL-size rinks with two smaller rinks, providing a skating loop of one-fifth of a mile. You can rent skates here, and take private lessons and group classes. Outpost Ice Arenas hosts a hockey program with clinics, classes, and league games. Description: Race to win or just have fun at this remodeled facility with the latest timed racing equipment that provides drivers with a printed record of lap times, finishing position, and ranking among previous drivers. There are two kinds of karts available: Fun kid karts are for drivers 7 or over, minimum 51 inches tall; the speedy GT3 Karts are for drivers 14 and over, minimum 55 inches tall. Spectators watch for free. There are also arcade games and pool, pinball, and gaming equipment. Open seven days.

Description: Albuquerque’s second-largest municipal pool after the West Mesa Aquatic Center, this outdoor 40-meter by 22-yard pool bordered by trees is deliciously inviting on hot summer days, and youngsters will enjoy the wading pool. There are dedicated times for lap swims for adults. The pool is open seven days but only during summer months.

Description: Olympic-size swimming at this cool and modern aquatic center includes an indoor 50-meter pool with lap swimming, exercise classes, and diving boards of 1 meter and 3 meters in height. Indoor and outdoor recreational pools with great water slides keep the kids happy. The indoor recreational pool has a beachlike design that is fully accessible. Open seven days, although hours vary by season and day.

Description: This is the largest public tennis complex in town and the host for many USTA and regional tournaments. There are 18 courts, and 13 of these are lighted. Courts feature a Laykold surface and nylon nets, and ball machines are available to rent by the hour. Rates are very reasonable at $2 per person, with discounts for seniors and juniors. Make reservations for the courts up to two days in advance, although reservations for both Saturday and Sunday are taken on Thursday. You can book a court by phone or in person. Tennis lessons are available here, and there’s an adult drop-in league throughout the year and an adult challenge ladder. Courts are available every day, from sunrise to sunset or from sunrise to 10 p.m. for lighted courts.

Reservations aren’t required, but you can make a reservation two days in advance to be sure of nabbing a court. Rates here are also a reasonable $2 per person, with discounts for seniors and juniors, and ball machines can be rented by the hour. Tennis lessons are available. Courts are open seven days a week, from 8 a.m. till dark during the week and from 8 a.m. till 5 p.m.on weekends.
