Description: The Portland Museum of Art is the city’s principal art museum and features a large collection of fine and decorative arts from the 18th century to the present. Works by Maine greats like Winslow Homer and Andrew Wyeth are permanent parts of the museum’s collection. The museum also features a rotating collection of American and European modern and classical artwork, which in the past has included everything from experimental lithographs to Rodin sculptures. A cafe and a gift shop round out the offerings. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students, and $4 for youth ages 6 to 17. Hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. There is free admission from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday. From Memorial Day to Columbus Day, the museum is also open on Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.
