Commute (Rock Hill, Lancaster, Fort Mill: new home, living, shopping centers)

I'm up in RI wanting to relocate to either NC. or SC. My wife will be working in the Charlotte, NC. area. can you live in SC and be within 30miles of Charlotte? if so what areas are nice to live in, where new shopping centers are being built, new homes and where you can get a few acres, Modern areas if that helps

You can live in the Rock Hill/Ft. Mill/Lancaster (SC) area. They are all well within 30 miles of Charlotte and the commute is quite easy. I live in Rock Hill and my husband does the commute into uptown Charlotte. It takes him about 25 minutes on average, at rush hour. That's taking 77. 485 is something else all together.

I highly recommend Fort Mill--even closer to Charlotte than Rock Hill. We faced a similar situation when we relocated from NY 13 years ago--where can you live within a reasonable commute to Charlotte without living right in the city or sketchy suburbs.Fort Mill is well known as a 'bedroom community' of Charlotte, and it offers a very nice small-town life, yet with all the conveniences you need right here in Fort Mill. Without traffic, I can be in the business district in about 15-20 minutes; 30 with traffic. You can get to the southernmost areas of Charlotte in only about 10 minutes--we're right on the border.Personally, I'm not a big fan of Rock Hill. I guess it's just that you can find nice housing and all the conveniences in Fort Mill, and you're much closer to Charlotte in Fort Mill. Lancaster is good, if you stay nearer to the border with Fort Mill and Charlotte--I think 'downtown' Lancaster is looking rather shabby lately. But there's a lot of new development all over the place. You really can't go wrong down here. You're gonna love it!I wish you the best!

Rock Hill is all of 7 miles farther from Charlotte than Ft. Mill.
