Hello,
I am a Mental Health caseworker and need a referal for a single mother with a male child(13) that has ADHD, and a series of other issues including gender disorder and conduct disorder. The current doctor spends 15 minutes with him and writes a script and send him on his way. I just received this case and would like to find another doctor for this child who would spend time listening to him.

If you want someone who somewhat specializes in ADHD, lookup Monica Revels or Tip Frank. Neither prescribe medicines though...these are counselors.

Most psychiatrists are simply "medication managers". Their goal is to prescribe medications to treat the symptoms. What your client also needs is a counselor. Counselors won't be able to prescribe medication but they spend quality time (typically 1 hour each visit) with the client and can help with cognitive behavioral therapy etc. The perfect scenario is a counselor and psychiatrist who coordinate their efforts and communicate with each other regarding their client's case.

Lot's of great counselors at Carolinas Counseling group in Pineville. Good luck!!
