Hello!

I will start a new job Oct. 1st - in Uptown Charlotte at a law firm. My partner will stay behind in Franklin, NC (a tiny rural town) until January-February.

I've called at least a zillion apartment complexes, and have found what seems to be a good deal. It is a 1 bedroom at Galleria Pointe in Rock Hill. My budget is tight - looking to pay no more than $700 a month for a 6 month lease, and the manager was very motherly and helpful over several conversations.

Any comments about this Galleria Pointe?

My goal is to buy a fixer-upper in rural York County - on several acres - and I will be looking at various possibilities in Clover, York, maybe Sharon. I drove through Hickory Grove on my way home after the job interview and adore the country side, rolling hills. It was a sweet area. But it is probably too much of a daily commute.

This combo - good job in Charlotte, rural life in S.C. - is exactly what I have been looking for!

That's the problem. In order to get several acres, you'd have to live way out in York or Sharon, which for me, is too far of a commute into Charlotte.

Understood, but for me it's worth it.

I lived in the city of Cincinnati for many years, so I experienced the "urban" scene. I despise suburbs and sub-divisions, and truly enjoy seeing the stars at night, hearing only the sounds of the country side, no malls, little traffic. I have that here in Franklin, NC ... but at the cost of a decent living wage (a $12 an hour job here is considered to be very good!) and benefits.

So, a job in Charlotte and acreage in rural York county sounds pretty good to me! Happily there are living situations to suit every taste.
